Marty Mood began his infatuation with fishing at a very early age, honing his skills on the many creeks, rivers, small ponds, and lakes of Southern Pennsylvania. After a four-year Navy enlistment, he attended Frostburg State University where he earned a B.S. in Wildlife/Fisheries Biology. Afterwards, he re-entered the Navy as an aviator, where he was surrounded by the fish-rich waters of the famous Laguna Madre in South Texas and led him to adopt the kayak as his preferred method of fishing! The exploding kayak fishing scene spurned competitive events, and it was here where Marty found a new outlet for his competitive side in kayak fishing tournaments. In 2004, he became the inaugural Extreme Edge Paddle Fishing Series Angler of the Year, the first Hobie Kayak Fishing Team member, the Hobie Fishing World Champion in 2012, and traveled to Australia the following year to represent Team USA. He loves introducing new people to the sport and seeing their face light up when they get their first “sleigh ride” from a big fish! Marty has appeared on numerous episodes of “Hobie Outdoor Adventures” TV on the NBC Sports Outdoor Network as well as episodes of “Americana Outdoors” and many “Kayak Bassin TV” webisodes on the Kayak Bassin TV YouTube channel.
